The Colluseum
As I mentioned in my last post, I’m not sure a weekend in Rome is quite enough (especially if you’re staying at the Rome Cavalieri!) I’m a bit of a sucker for tourist attractions, particularly when they are so steeped in history. Unfortunately this time with such a packed schedule I didn’t manage to make it around to all of the must-sees, but I did manage to very quickly eat an ice cream before it melted at the Trevi Fountain, and pose for a few photos outside the colosseum.
Despite not managing to quite see everything, I think I can safely say that Rome has made it pretty close to the top of my list when it comes to Italian cities (there are still a few more on the hit list) – the light, the food, the architecture and the history – it’s all so abundant.
On our first night in the city we were lucky enough to enjoy our dinner overlooking the Trevi Fountain as we were given the most wonderful Italian food tips by Raluca from the Roman Food Tour. I left Rome an expert in what real gelato looks like, the best kind of balsamic vinegar, and what to look out for when buying Italian wine. If you want to experience the best of Italian food whilst you’re in Rome I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend getting in touch with her – I’ve never seen someone this passionate about food, and it’s infectious! We all ate our weight in spaghetti, mozzarella and ham, rounded off nicely with a pot of real gelato.
I have absolutely no doubt that I’ll be back again to see even more, eat even more, and spend even more time by the pool at the Rome Cavalieri. Same time next year?
